BEAUTIFUL SAILING We awoke to a bright orange sunrise. The air warmed as the sun climbed higher and the crew jumped and dived off the boat into clear and calm turquoise waters. The boat was anchored in an inlet and moored from the stern to a rock ashore. Snokeling along the shore you could see down 20 meters and observe the wonderful colours of the small fish we found as they dashed before you.
Soon it was time for breakfast out in the cockpit. Lots of fruit and fresh Greek yoghurt and of course good old British tea. After a cup (or three) we made the boat ready for sea and raised the anchor. Nosing out into the Aegean the wind had not yet arrived so we made progress on the motor. About 11am we saw the first flurries of wind on the surface of the calm flat sea. As the wind increased we raised the sails and we were soon making good speed without the engine. The silence was only broken by the swish of water under the hull. SKIPPERED CHARTER
"CANOPUS" is a well-equipped Moody 44, and quite a roomy yacht so that 6 people can sail in relative comfort. She has room for 4 guests in two cabins, one double in the bow and one with two bunk berths. The skippers cabin is aft. Six on board a yacht is an ideal number and allows for each crew member to have some private space at some time during the day. We accept children with their parents about 9 years onwards and those we have had have had a great time.
She is currently in the South Aegean and will be sailing in Greece and Turkey in 2009. There is no set timetable. Where possible we will allocate periods to suit you. We aim to start around mid April.
Prices are for one week but we welcome and encourage longer stays. Cheap flights are available on the Internet and should be booked within a few weeks of departure. Further advice will be given on booking. Transfers are usually arranged by crew members. A hire car may be possible at your expense. Otherwise use an airport taxi or bus.
We have tried to keep prices low and they cover the berth and the skipper. All other costs are payable on board. These include food and drink, mooring fees, fuel charges and breakages.
All sailings will be determined by the current weather. Above all we aim to have fun with everyone having a go! Anyone wishing to take on the responsibilities of skipper can do so, but under supervision. Other crew members can be taught new skills as required. There will be plenty of opportunity to go ashore and to relax in anchorages.
Life jackets are provided together with harnesses. You will need some light waterproofs but full ocean gear is generally not needed. Most of the time you will be in T-shirts and shorts. Deck shoes or trainers (with non marking soles) should be brought. Duvets are available together with linen. Please however bring your own towels.
You will be encouraged to become an active crewmember and learn to use all the equipment. You will also be expected to consider others on board at all times. All equipment on board should be respected and cared for. Any breakages or losses should be advised to the skipper as soon as they occur. The boat and all equipment will need to be kept clean.
Smoking is allowed in the cockpit area BUT with due regard for others.
